two for two

Decades ago,
my siblings and I
did what we called
“two for two”

In theory,
we would exchange
two minutes of backrub given
for two received

I didn’t understand it then,
but this positive physical contact
may well have saved
our lives

(Loving touch
Is THAT important)

As the eldest,
I would typically exchange
two minutes given
for ten seconds

So, now,
as my “little” brother
plays checkers with my
older son, who inherited his name
from my brother,
I trace my fingers
over my brother’s back
and think:

Years later,
I would wager
I still owe him
thousands of minutes

… and I am happy to,
for the moment, have the chance
to bridge the deficit

We used to do that. I think we were relatively fair about it, but then again, being the youngest, I most likely got the short end of the deal if it was lopsided…

D assures me I only owe him hundreds of minutes, which feels generous compared to my recollections. He tells me it’s our youngest sister who REALLY owes in the thousands. Say what?! But, hey: glad I’m not the “bad” guy, for the moment. πŸ™‚

        Ain’t that the truthπŸ˜‰

I totally misunderstood what D said! I was like, weird, I guess D and Madeline had a different thing going! He clarified this morning by saying, “No, if anyone is owed thousands of minutes, it’s Madeline!” That’s more in line with my recollections. πŸ™‚

I have started a “massage Friday” as part of our routine Friday night’s at bedtime. The boys crowd around me playing with my hair or massaging my shoulders and I give them massages on their back, shoulders, or play with their hair. I’m hoping they will massage each other like we did growing up.😊

That is lovely! I wonder if there’s a way to incorporate something similar here? I’ve probably missed the window with D! Love you
