Because I am lucky

One of my sons is sick today. Because I am lucky, his grandma is watching him while his dad and I work.

The other son’s school didn’t open on time. Someone on the staff either missed an alarm or had an accident, and so my little one and I stood outside the school for 45 minutes before it opened. Because I am lucky, my manager laughed when I explained I’d be late. “What, you don’t want to leave him to fend for himself in the parking lot!?” he replied.

My son shrieked with glee when he saw his teacher, which made me smile.

Every day, I am able to either be with my sons or leave them with people who care. Because I have been unlucky, I am grateful to be so lucky today.

Especially in these trying times, it’s crucial to acknowledge the things that make us lucky. Gratitude goes a long way.

I’m trying to find a little something (preferably a few!) every day. (Somehow, it’s easier if I stay away from Twitter …)

This is so lovely! I am glad you feel lucky. Also, when a kid is so pleased to see his teacher – ahhh, best feeling ever. I get that sometimes as a teacher, and with the very little ones, you can never be sure whether it is childish enthusiasm or genuine excitement to see you. But it is always always heartwarming. Your manager sounds remarkably wonderful! Mine was never half as understanding! πŸ™‚

Part of what makes me grateful is remembering some of my mom’s managers! She always felt this close to getting fired over circumstances beyond her control. Working for folks who understand life is life is truly something to appreciate.

Also, Littler often says he wants to find his teacher. He adores her. πŸ’•

Being in a position where I’m lucky, but my daughter see’s it differently, makes it so important that I be grateful. She’ll understand sooner or later.

It took me many years to get much of it, but it’s truly a better late than never situation!

Isn’t it wonderful how unlucky times provide the contrast for us to appreciate even the smallest slivers of luck that some might not even notice? Hope your son is feeling better. πŸ™‚

A grateful heart is a happy heart. It’s so great that you are able to maturely look above and beyond the problem(s) and find the good in the solutions. I might even argue that you’re not lucky, but blessed, most of all because you can see the bigger picture. Prayers for you and yours, Michelle

No truer words. Made me smile with this one. I find that because of what I’ve had missing in my life I appreciate what I receive all the more. You do, too– obviously.

Sometimes it is the little things that remind us of how truly blessed we are.
