Praise what I notice now

“So, I have to say,” I told a lady making coffee in the breakroom this morning, “I love your style!”

She went from appearing startled to relaxing into a smile.

“Thank you! You just made my day.”

As I reached for tea and honey, I replied, “It’s about time I said something! I’ve noticed for months. Today, your outfit is just way too rocking to leave it unsaid.”

As I made my tea, she walked away smiling.

I smiled, too, and thought how I probably shouldn’t take months to praise what I notice now.

Even these little things can improve a whole day.

Oh yes they certainly can. Also it does feel good knowing you made somebody’s day ๐Ÿ™‚

It really does! I meant to keep an eye out for other opportunities, but I forgot as the day wore on …

If I’m lucky enough, I’ll have another shot tomorrow. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now consider the ripple effect of that compliment. She left your encounter happier, which probably impacted how she responded to the next person she interacted with, leaving them happier. And just like that, you made today a better day.

Her delight warmed my heart in ways that rippled out for me for the rest of the day, too! I’ve got a lot of unarticulated thoughts jumbled around in my brain, but this was the perfection reflection of their core. I think I’ll spend more time here, and less where I have been. ♥

This moment, this second will never come again, so do what you can to make it brighter. (I’m misquoting some famous philosophers, writers, and poets — each says it a little differently, but it’s been said a lot.)

So any people underestimate the power of a well placed, sincere and honest compliment. We would all do well to do more of that ๐Ÿ˜Š

Agreed! Also, so many people deflect compliments that it was really cool to see what a non-deflection, genuine “thanks” sounds like. I’m going to try more of that myself now!

I try to do this all the time too. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s fallen by the wayside for a few months (*cough*), but it’s time for me to get back into it!
