A perfect afternoon

My friend Ra is visiting this afternoon.

I’m an introvert. I start each visit with almost any friend attempting to entertain. That’s what you’re supposed to do, right? Entertain?

Quickly enough each time Ra visits, I realize she doesn’t need to be entertained. I can chat, read blogs, or do my laundry. All of it’s fine. She’ll keep herself entertained any which way.

Right now, she’s watching Shark Boy and Lava Girl with my six-year-old, Li’l D. They’re snuggled together on the couch and laughing.

My husband is talking to his computer while my toddler drags toy swords around the house.

It’s the perfect afternoon for this introvert: I’m surrounded by people I love, basking in the warmth of getting to be here with them … without my having to say a single word, except when necessitated by my offspring’s shenanigans!

perfect setting…glad all’s well in your corner

  2. December 27, 2015 at 4:01 pm

That is the best kind of company in my books!

    • December 27, 2015 at 5:37 pm

Agreed! I usually find it in my siblings by birth, so it’s delightful when I realize I’ve found it in other people. 🙂

    Looks perfect to me…

    • December 27, 2015 at 5:39 pm

It was lovely, even when Li’l D decided he had to leap from the sofa arms, a little more than once.

Ra was more than equal to the (com)motion. :p

Sounds perfect, indeed. Enjoy the shenanigans!

    • December 27, 2015 at 5:39 pm

They were greatly enjoyed! In fact, as your comment showed up on my screen, I looked over at Ra-in-Santa-hat tickling D and wanted to telepathically communicate how very much I continued to enjoy the shenanigans. 🙂

🙂 fantastic way to spend an afternoon 🙂

It was a great reminder that my native instinct to read away any/all my free time in a corner of my bedroom isn’t necessarily The Best Thing Ever, though it always seems like it when I’m imagining what I want for a given day! I really do enjoy being proven wrong sometimes. 🙂

Perfect. People you love, who love you – and allow you to be yourself. Hard to ask for more isn’t it?

  7. December 27, 2015 at 6:57 pm

That’s the best kind of friend. ❤

  8. December 27, 2015 at 9:57 pm

Wow! Hope someday I will also spend Sunday afternoons like this 🙂

  9. December 28, 2015 at 12:01 am

Sounds perfect x those are the folk you want to be around 😊

I like your friend even more – for watching shark boy and larva girl 😁😁😁

    • December 29, 2015 at 7:23 am

Yes, yes to your first and second paragraphs! Specifically re: the second, I am still flabbergasted by it. I could barely sit still for ten minutes of the movie! 🙂

  10. December 28, 2015 at 7:33 am

That is a great afternoon! 🙂

  11. December 28, 2015 at 8:15 am

Sounds like a great afternoon. I hope you have many more.

Sounds like the perfect day 🙂

  13. December 28, 2015 at 1:08 pm

The best friends are those who need nothing but to be there. it sounds like a nice time.

    • December 31, 2015 at 3:56 am

Perfectly stated, and it was! (Also, happy new year, whether or not you’re awake and drinking IPA in its first breaths!)

  14. December 28, 2015 at 1:35 pm

That’s so cute. It’s hard to find friends like that, and probably the main reason why I hide from all my friends… my sister is like that though. We can just sit in the same room and do nothing for hours. So that means Ra must be your sister 🙂

    • December 31, 2015 at 3:58 am

I like and support your reasoning. I did actually come to the same conclusion this weekend. 🙂

  15. December 28, 2015 at 1:42 pm

I feel you, Deb! I am a dreadful host. I panic when I know company is coming, which is better than when I panic after they show up unexpectedly! However, Ra’s not company, she’s family, so that’s different 🙂

    • January 1, 2016 at 6:05 am

I know this panic of which you speak! I’m glad to have a few people–family!–to which this panic does not apply, and with which any sense of needing to entertain quickly falls away. 🙂

  16. December 28, 2015 at 3:15 pm

This is what I call perfection. Why worry about leaping?

  17. December 28, 2015 at 6:30 pm

Aw, I loved being there…. I always do. And Sharkboy & LavaGirl– awesome! Though I have to say I enjoyed the little one’s rapt focus more than the movie itself. 😀 It did make me want pink hair though… 😉 Love you all. *mwah

I can’t believe he’s watched it three times already! I watched it the second time, and have to say watching you and him watching it together was far preferable. :p (Also, that’s a heckuva lot of watch for one sentence, but still!)

I did not love awakening at 3:55 this morning, but I do love you! And I’m smiling through the tired, knowing there’s good things ahead, and now. ♥

  18. December 29, 2015 at 9:11 am

    Perfect bliss…….

  19. December 29, 2015 at 12:52 pm

As an introvert I appreciated this post so much. I teach, and therefore I spend hours “entertaining”. When I’m not at work I tend to be a hermit. A happy medium for me is being around people – my place or theirs – who don’t need entertaining, or feel the need to entertain me, who accept my lack of hostess skills, and hang out with me anyway. Ra is both friend and family so you win on two counts. Happy Healthy New Year to you and yours.

Cheers to all of that, and happy new year to you and yours, too! It is so good to see your name here and in my reader.

  20. December 29, 2015 at 9:42 pm

Sounds like the best kind of friend to me 🙂

Big fan of Ra’s and new follower of your blog, so this is a win win! 😉
