Wedding unplanning, princess style

I’m getting married in two months.

We’ve set a date. The location is planned-ish. We selected the song for our first dance around two minutes after I said “yes.”

The rest? Not so much. But I’m not stressing, and I’m not looking for advice, because here’s the thing: This wedding is about me and my fiancee, and the pace at which we’re planning it is a reflection of who we are together. Whether we plan everything tomorrow or skate right down to the wire, we’ll have our day amidst a small but lovely (and patient!) gathering of friends.

It’s all gonna be great. Even if the first wedding dress I bought didn’t fit just right, it’s still not a loss. My son’s excited commentary when he saw me in it was worth so much more than $99.

“You look like a girl! You’re a princess!”

No matter what dress I wear or where I proclaim my commitment, I’m sure I’ll feel like a princess that day, too, surrounded by friends and enveloped in love shinier and more enduring than any store-bought material.

You have the best attitude. Perfect, in fact!

I hope I’m able to hold onto it as the date nears! I’ve had a couple of friends indicate chagrin they won’t be able to spend much time here or do anything party-like around my wedding, but it’s easy to say that’s not important to me. Because, holy cow, I get choked up just thinking about the day and the proximity to so many lovely people who normally don’t get a chance to be in proximity. *sniffle* I can’t wait.

So refreshing to hear your wise and joyful perspective—–happy, happy!

Thank you! I felt so guilty not replying to comments sooner, but I’m glad revisiting them now, a few hours after having found The Dress. Great perspective, and so many smiles. ♥

You are beautiful! And you are right…its not about anyone else but you and your soon to be hubby! I sure hope you post some wedding pictures because I am so happy for you!

There will definitely be wedding pictures posted! If today’s bridal dress shopping session was any indication, I’ll be teary in about half of ’em. 😀

Thanks, Georgette! So far, I’m having a blast just piecing everything together bit by bit. Amazing to think that thirteen months have passed since engagement, and that only another two stand between us and marriage. I imagine those months will fly!

You are a Warrior Princess! You are beautiful, you could be wearing knickers and a torn sports bra and you would be beautiful.

I will be floating about you in spirit sprinkling fairy dust and happy glitter!

If you look THAT beautiful in your dress now, you’ll be even more breathtaking on your big day! Soak up every minute . . . enjoy being a princess bride!

You are ALWAYS a princess on the inside if you want to be, and a badass action hero, and a superhero, and a Xena type, and an Amazon, and everything.

I love your take on your wedding. It’s not about all the glitz and perfection…because really WHAT could top your love and commitment to one another? That dress is simply stunning becaue you are in it. ❤

I got married in five months. Just decided if we were going to do it then why hang around?! Good luck with your big day. 🙂

Happy smiles from here. I love your focus on the important things… your fiancee, your son and love. It doesn’t get any better than that.

You look marvelous! And, having been around that block (eh-hem!) a few times, I will strongly agree with you that it has (and shouldn’t have) nothing to do with the place, the dress, or the amount of money spent. It’s about love begetting love, being together, and taking vows that will hopefully last a lifetime (no matter what my track record suggests, lol). Love ya, Deb!!! XOXO-Kasey

Ooooo…pretty! I’m getting married in 2 months, too. Well more like 44 days.

  13. July 26, 2013 at 12:54 am

So true, Deb! But a lovely, shiny princess dress doesn’t hurt, either.

  14. July 26, 2013 at 12:02 pm

Deb! You have to know that I love everything about this post! May you all live happily ever after. (I know you know relationships are gardens that need forever tending)! LOL! So happy for all of you!
